Each year, Balik Kampoeng brings together Indonesian students from NTU to return home and make a difference in local communities across Indonesia. Through our past events, we've carried out initiatives that focus on education, environment and community empowerment, aimed at uplifting those in need. These moments remind us of the impact we can create when we work with heart, purpose, and unity. Take a look at some of our past projects and the stories behind them!

Balik Kampoeng 2025: "Surf the Waves" invites everyone to work together to support local small businesses, protect the environment, and improve education for the younger generation. Why? Because we believe that Buleleng, North Bali, has great potential to grow through its beautiful nature, rich culture, and strong traditions.

Volunteers supported Willing Hearts by assisting in meal preparation and food packing for beneficiaries in need. Through hands-on involvement in the kitchen, the initiative contributed to addressing food insecurity while fostering a strong spirit of empathy, teamwork, and service among volunteers.

Beloem Balik Kampoeng: Panti Asuhan Anak Terang is a pre-BK activity involving a visit to an orphanage in Batam, where volunteers conduct mini workshops on English and financial literacy. The initiative aims to equip children with essential life skills while creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

On the same day under Youth Corps Singapore, volunteers were simultaneously engaged in two different but equally meaningful initiatives. One group connected with seniors at Ren Ci, Bukit Batok through colouring, terrarium-making, and silver crafting activities, fostering meaningful relationships and supporting creativity, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being. Another group took part in the Beloem Balik Kampoeng beach clean-up at Sembawang, removing waste and debris along the shoreline. Together, these parallel activities reflected a shared commitment to community care and environmental sustainability through diverse forms of service.

Balik Kampoeng 2024: Through the Jungle focused on the environment and education sectors in Bukit Lawang, Medan, through sustainable, community-based initiatives. Environmental efforts included tree planting, wildlife monitoring using camera traps, and eco-brick creation, while educational programs featured competitions, a science fair, and activities at the Passion Centre. Together, these initiatives aimed to strengthen environmental conservation and inspire children to continue learning.

Beloem Balik Kampoeng: Beach Clean Up invited volunteers to hunt for “treasures” at sea while cleaning up East Coast Park. Through this hands-on activity, participants contributed to a cleaner coastline while raising awareness about marine pollution.

In collaboration with SG MINDS, this activity engaged participants through dancing, games, and arts and crafts. The session aimed to create a joyful and inclusive environment while fostering meaningful connections with the MINDS community.

Balik Kampoeng 2023: Beyond the Shore delivered environmental and educational initiatives across multiple communities. On the environment front, 15 street lights were installed along 1 km of road in Kampung Melayu and Sungai Buaya, 48 garbage bins were distributed across Pulau Belakang Padang, 250 mangroves were planted at Teritip Beach, and beach clean-ups were conducted at Nongsa Beach. For education, 251 elementary students from SDN 001 and SDN 004 Lubuk Baja were introduced to various professions through Kelas Mimpi, while 50 youths were upskilled in financial planning and management through Kelas Master.

Balik Kampoeng 2022: PMI Resilience was held in collaboration with KBRI Singapura to create a space for NTU students to connect and learn from Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). Through dialogue sessions and hands-on workshops, the program highlighted resilience, shared lived experiences, and fostered meaningful cross-community learning and solidarity.

Balik Kampoeng: Kole Beo is part of Balik Kampoeng’s annual community initiative held in Mbuit Village, West Nusa Tenggara.
